Pitter Patter Little After - MAY DAY, MAY DAY!!!
I have scuba dived into the depths of ocean, paraglided through the wind, walked in the sea bed, rolled downhill zorbing, witnessed a snowfall at Christmas, sandstorm, seen a catacomb, hopped pandals at Durga Pujo and so on.STILL, i have never seen the wrath of nature or thousands of people praying for their lives. This list that I was so proud of proved me wrong.
20.05.2020. (MAY DAY)
The day started with the falling rain on my windowpane. Eagerly making me sleep for some more time. 'It's cozy here' I think until it all goes for a toss. Pending assignments, exams didn't make me give much thought to this impending adversity. Suddenly the gentle breeze turned into a storm. Leaving our lunch midway we started closing the windows. There were sparks all the time. I have never witnessed such a catastrophe ever before. I have seen these in movies -buildings collapsing, rooms being flooded with water, no electricity, no network, no water and for some people no roof over their head.
Sitting in a room and hearing those noises made me believe how granted we take life to be. How we fail to realize the bare necessities that we are born with. How close we all were to dying that day. How it feels to spend every moment with batted breath to wish that it all had stopped. Those few hours managed to change my birthplace, Kolkata forever. It ravaged , flooded, uprooted, scavenged everything at sight. It was gory.
The next day proved to be even more difficult. The visual sight at the loss of lives, seeing live wires dangling from trees, no water, people having no shelter nothing- it is overwhelming. The whole neighbourhood proved to be one as each penned down their loss. When did this became the new normal? walking with masks, living with no connection from the outside world, people dying and everything being a topsy turvy of normal?
it was a MAY DAY afterall.
