BLACK WARRANT ๐Ÿ“ŒSunetra Choudhury (currently the political editor at Hindustan Times) along with Sunil Gupta who has spent more than 3 decades in Tihar Jail as an officer of law, gives us a bitter glimpse of the heart wrenching reality behind Asia's largest prison. ๐Ÿ“šThe first chapter starts with Gupta's family being disappointed in his judgement of choosing a job at Tihar. As the story progresses, he meets Charles Sobhraj, the ''super IG" of the jail. Sitting there he witnessed prisoners being beaten in the chakkar as there were no surveillance cameras. There were no trained staffs. Instead Gupta learnt his job from two inmates. In return these inmates devised a system of disappearing the warrants of small time criminals in exchange of a small fee. Sobhraj was never locked up in a cell, no deadline for a lock-in or out, had complete liberty, dealt with his business of narcotics and liquor within the premises, had C class prisoners to cook, massage, wash his cl...

Which is your favourite book written by John Green? ๐Ÿ“ŒThis was my second read by John Green. The story is narrated by Aza Holmes who lives in Indianapolis, America and is an OCD sufferer. She intentionally opens up a crack in her finger to see if she is real. Her job is to seal it with bandage every single time, making her wonder whether she is already infected or not. Throughout the story she tries to get rid of her anxiety and feel normal like others. Daisy, her bestfriend on the other hand writes a fan fiction and has a motto in her life ' break hearts, not promises.' She and Daisy decides to investigate the sudden disappearance of a billionaire, Russell Pickett. The reward of this search could be of great help to enroll themselves in college. The girl on the train by Paula Hawkins (book review)

Image
๐Ÿ“–- The girl on the train by Paula Hawkins Genre- mystery, psychological fiction ๐Ÿ“Œ The story was well narrated but started building upto the plot only after 100 pages. Revolving around the life of 3 characters, this gave us the life of Rachael who is an alcoholic, unemployed, unreliable, divorced person. She pretends to have a pseudo job infront of her flatmate and continues to travel in daily commuter train. Everyday she sees a perfect couple, naming them Jess and Jason and reminisces about the perfect life that she lost. Until one day she sees Jess(Meghan) kissing a stranger on the rooftop. ๐Ÿ“Œ The next day Meghan's disappearance on the tabloid made her feel responsible to share that incident to the police and especially to Scott(Jason). Being an unreliable source and unable to remember what happened with her that night, she began her own investigation. Pretending to be a friend of Meghan's they suspect her therapist to be the culprit.  ๐Ÿ“ŒThe story finally builds up the suspens...

I Can Feel The Falling Rain

Image
It's 5pm. Icy, windy and dim, Messy hair, Crumbled bedsheet and a deadline in my mind . Scribbling through a notepad for my new story, I am kept awake through the night Isn't caffeine supposed to help?  I could hear the falling rain on my window pane Children playing in the puddles, dew frosted on the grass, Some feeling the damp in the cold air, Others just snuggling up close, Some happy faces coming back from school- it's a rainy day afterall!!! This made me remember my excitement when the notice board said 'classes dismissed'. As cartoons were my rescue, With a warm glass of milk & my favourite cookie Who doesn't like skipping classes once in a while? The sound of gentle breeze made me go for a walk. Grabbing my overcoat along with a book in hand It's quiet but my place. Like a portrait from a colored palette. Like the trees swinging by, Like silver lining, glittery stars all shining bright. Like the gravel pathway and olive paddock  showing me a way, ...

Pitter Patter Little After - MAY DAY, MAY DAY!!!

Image
I have scuba dived into the depths of ocean, paraglided through the wind, walked in the sea bed, rolled downhill zorbing, witnessed a snowfall at Christmas, sandstorm, seen a catacomb, hopped pandals at Durga Pujo and so on.STILL, i have never seen the wrath of nature or thousands of people praying for their lives. This list that I was so proud of proved me wrong. 20.05.2020. (MAY DAY) The day started with the falling rain on my windowpane. Eagerly making me sleep for some more time. 'It's cozy here' I think  until it all goes for a toss. Pending assignments, exams didn't make me give much thought to this impending adversity. Suddenly the gentle breeze turned into a storm. Leaving our lunch midway we started closing the windows. There were sparks all the time. I have never witnessed such a catastrophe ever before. I have seen these in movies -buildings collapsing, rooms being flooded with water, no electricity, no network, no water and for some people no roof over their he...
